If you browse to Dubai on Google Maps, you’ll notice that, just off shore from the city, there are some rather curious looking structures for people who weren’t aware of their existence. Dubai, always ambitious where building is concerned, has constructed artificial islands off the coast. The most famous of these is Palm Jumeirah, so named because it is in the shape of a palm tree.
Dubai is relatively famous for the very valuable real estate in the city. At the same time, the Dubai lifestyle and the prospect of actually owning property in Dubai are very attractive to wealthy people from around the world. To accommodate not only the business interests that these people bring to the city but their interest in living the high life, the city has not only constructed Palm Jumeirah, but is also working on an island development called The World, both of which provide opportunities for people to buy property in Dubai in what has to be one of the most exclusive locations on the entire planet.
Palm Jumeirah
Palm Jumerirah was begun in 1993. Today, it is one of the most notable – perhaps the most notable – destination in the city of Dubai. The island is home to Burj Al Arab. This hotel is the epitome of excellence for those who truly want to stay somewhere luxurious. It is rated at no less than seven stars and is located more than 900 feet out in the sea. The effect is that the shadows never fall on the beaches around the hotel, allowing people to get out and enjoy the sun.
Palm Jumeirah required more than 3,000,000,000 square feet of ocean sand to construct. The structure also consists of rocks harvested from the mountains. The distinctive look of the island required an incredible amount of sophisticated engineering to create. In the end, however, that engineering paid off. Look at the satellite image of the island on Google Maps, and you have proof in the fact that you’re actually looking at the island from space.
The World will take the shape of a map of the world, appropriately enough. These islands are currently under construction, but are likely to sell very quickly once they become available on the market and millionaires looking for a truly distinctive property have access to them.
Getting There
Visitors to Dubai can drive directly to the island and see what it has to offer. Alternately, there is a monorail system that is still being constructed, though it is partially operational, that will take visitors from the shore to the island.
Where exploring Dubai is concerned, there are few destinations as distinctive or memorable as the man-made islands. If you’re looking for an incredibly luxurious experience visiting this vibrant city, staying at Burj Al Arab is an experience that you are not likely to forget. Not only do visitors get the thrill of being on a man-made island, they are surrounded by the natural beauty of the Persian Gulf and can look toward the city to see one of the most impressive skylines in all the Middle East.
